Vertical Platform Lifts in Orange County

Powered wheelchair access where a ramp won't fit.

When an entry sits several feet above grade, a code-compliant ramp can need twenty or thirty feet of run — space many Orange County lots simply don't have. A vertical platform lift carries a wheelchair or scooter straight up to the porch or landing in a footprint about the size of a closet.

The problem

When a ramp needs more room than the property has

Safe ramp slope means roughly one foot of run for every inch of rise, plus level landings. A 36-inch porch can require a switchback structure that swallows the front walkway or the side yard. A vertical platform lift solves the same access problem vertically, in a compact footprint, without reshaping the front of the house.

We start at the elevation change itself: how many inches from finished grade to the landing, how much flat space exists at the bottom, where the gate should open, and how the platform will sit relative to the front door, driveway, and landscaping.

Platform lifts need a level, properly prepared base and dedicated power, so part of the assessment is confirming what site work and electrical the installation requires — and telling you plainly when a permit is involved.

Once installed, we run the lift with you and whoever will use it daily: gate operation, call controls, the emergency lowering procedure, and the simple maintenance checks that keep it running smoothly.

  • Review of platform placement, gate direction, and travel path

Where it's used

Common places we install platform lifts

  • Front entries three or more steps above grade
  • Side or garage entries with a single tall elevation change
  • Rear decks and patios that have become unreachable
  • Homes where the lot, setbacks, or HOA rules the ramp out
  • Households moving from a manual ramp to powered access

Benefits

Why homeowners choose this

Compact footprint

Roughly the space of a small closet instead of twenty-plus feet of ramp run.

Independent entry

The user operates the lift themselves, without a second person pushing or assisting.

Weather-ready hardware

Exterior units are specified for outdoor use, with enclosed platforms and safety gates.

Reversible

A platform lift can be removed later without rebuilding your porch or hardscape.

How the work happens

Our installation process

Every project follows the same four-part path: free home safety assessment, personalized recommendations, a clear written proposal, then professional installation.

Step 1

Measure and plan

We confirm total rise, base area, gate direction, and the clear path to the door.

Step 2

Prepare the site

A level pad and dedicated power are arranged before the equipment arrives.

Step 3

Install and test

The lift is set, wired, leveled, and cycled through its full travel and safety functions.

Step 4

Train and hand off

We show every control, including manual lowering, and leave written operating guidance.

Why Magnolia Home Access

A specialized accessibility company, not a side service

Accessibility is the whole business

We aren't a general remodeler adding grab bars on the side. Residential accessibility is what we do every day.

Assessment before any price

We look at the actual home before quoting, so the written number reflects your stairs, walls, and site — not an average.

Planned with the household

Placement and controls are set with the person who will use them, and family members are welcome to join by phone.

The person who assesses is the person who installs

No salesperson hands you off to a subcontractor. The same person who walks your home and writes your proposal does the installation, so nothing gets lost in between.

FAQ

Platform Lifts questions we hear often

How much space does a vertical platform lift need?

Most residential units need a level base roughly the size of a small closet, plus clear space for the gate to swing and for someone to turn on the landing. We measure this on site before quoting.

Does it require electrical work or a permit?

Usually yes to dedicated power, and often yes to a permit depending on the city and the rise. We tell you what's required in the written proposal rather than after work begins.

What happens in a power outage?

Residential lifts include a manual or battery-backed lowering method. We demonstrate it during the handoff so everyone in the household knows how to use it.

Is a lift better than a ramp?

Neither is automatically better. Ramps need substantial run and no power; lifts need less space but need electricity and maintenance. During your assessment we lay out both options for your specific entry.
